Nobody has the perfect face, we all struggle with a few too many things,  and dark circles are one of them. It is possible to have completely smooth skin and also see dark circles under the eyes. Some skin care products might be the reason for this. Other times, it is our lifestyle. Think about the many nights you stay up, straining your eyes to complete a movie or read for an exam. Straining the eyes even when the body is tired is one of the bad habits we take part in that leaves us with dark circles. Dark circles are not restricted to any gender; they can happen to men and women. No one likes these dark circles under the eyes because it looks older than we are. Getting rid of dark circles is easy but first, let us discuss the causes.

CAUSES OF DARK CIRCLES

AGE: The older we get, our body slows down on the production of tissues. The slow output causes thinning around the eyes, and this causes puffiness around that region. The thinning also happens as a result of aging. Dark circles also occur when the body starts to lose fat and its elasticity. When collagen production becomes slow, too, the blood vessels in the skin become very visible. This occurs mainly in the eye bag region and darkens it. It is easier to notice the appearance of dark circles under the eyes of older adults.

GENETICS: Most times, we try remedies for dark circles, and it seems not to work. It is time to check on everyone in your family. If most members of your family have dark circles under their eyes, it’s time to worry less. Dark circles are mostly inherited and passed down from generations. If you are lucky, it can disappear as you get older. If you start to notice dark circles at a younger age, give it a time or use the products recommended in this article to get rid of them.

DEHYDRATION: Water is one of the essential factors behind glowing skin. To keep your skin in check, you need to stay hydrated at all times. When you do not take the right amount of water required in a day, your eyes will appear sunken. The dullness of the eyes affects the skin below it and leads to dark circles. Also, water helps us flush out toxins from the body. When the body is detoxified, the dark circles quickly go away.

STRESS: When our body cannot deal with stress, it becomes physically noticeable. Stress has our body sleep-deprived and constantly tired. When the body lacks proper rest, the eyes become puffy and sunken. This leads to the dark circles under the eyes. If you have dark circles under your eyes, find out how well you’ve been sleeping and also prepare to adjust your lifestyle.

SUN: Wearing sunscreen cannot be emphasized enough. Did you know that constant exposure to the sun can make your skin darker? When we are overexposed to the sun, the body excessively produces melanin. Sunshades can help protect your eyes from getting dark circles.

Now that we have understood the causes of dark circles under the eyes, it’s time to try out these remedies to help you get rid of them.

COLD COMPRESS: A cold compress on your eye bag helps to get rid of dark circles faster. It also helps to shrink the congealed blood under your eyes. It would help if you used a cold compress twice a day. To make a cold compress, wrap ice cubes in a cloth and place them on the affected areas for about twenty minutes. When the ice melts before time, replace it and repeat the process.

MASSAGE WITH OIL: Before you massage the dark circles with oil, ensure skin type to avoid allergies and reactions. Oils have bioactive compounds that help get rid of dark circles. Use coconut oil or other carrier oils to massage the dark circle. It helps with the free flow of blood in that region and makes hyperpigmentation occur in that region. When you massage the oil in, leave it overnight.

CUCUMBER: A slice of cucumber contains the right amount of water to keep your skin hydrated externally. It removes the dark circle and patches in the face while keeping it radiating at the same time. Cucumbers are astringents and are famous for lightening the skin.

Cut thick slices of cucumber and keep them in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Place on the affected areas for 10 minutes while laying down with your face up. After 10 minutes, rinse your face with warm water. Repeat the process every day of the week and watch the changes.

TEA BAGS: While making a cup of tea, it will be best not to throw away the tea bags. Let it get cold and place it in the dark circle. You can also chill your teabags in a refrigerator for about 15 minutes. Teabags have anti-inflammatory qualities that can reduce the puffiness that comes with dark circles. Do not use teabags while it’s still hot, as it will only damage the skin. The best teabag to use is the everyday over-the-counter green tea. Rinse your face with warm water and moisturize.

STAY HYDRATED AND GET ENOUGH SLEEP: Water keeps the skin glowing even when we do not use skincare products. In a day, try to take at least 9-13 cups of water. If you do not like water, try to add fruits to it for extra taste.

The lack of sleep leaves the eyes puffy and swollen. It’s best to spend less time in front of the computer and phone, get to bed early every day. Engage in less stressful activities as it reduces the appearance of dark circles under the eyes.
