You might not have heard it here first, but we cannot ignore the fact that winter is coming! It is advisable to switch up your skincare with every new season. Summer had hot and humid weather, making sunscreen and lightweight lotions our best friends. Our skin gets exposed to more colds during the winter than in other seasons. The lack of moisturisers and other winter skincare-specific products will leave your skin itchy and dull. The cold makes our skin dry up. It can be the primary factor causing eczema, psoriasis and other skin conditions. Did you know that winter is the right time to get your skin glowing? The cold during the winter reduces clogging of the pores. It also reduces the production of sebum on the skin.

However, knowing the following skincare tips for healthy skin during the winter is best.

1. Avoid long showers

The cold during the winter has us longing for hours of a hot shower. However, hot showers strip the skin of its natural oil. During the winter, it is advisable to shower with lukewarm water to keep your skin healthy. Hot showers will also dry the skin and damage the skin barrier. After washing your face with lukewarm water, it is best to moisturise.

2. Apply a sunscreen

You might be wondering if you need sunscreen wu=ith all that cold, right? The answer is yes! Sunscreen is all-weather friendly. The only time you should avoid sunscreen is during the nighttime skin routine. During the winter, ensure sunscreen is essential to your daytime routine. Even though the weather is cold, always reapply your sunscreen. Sunscreen protects your face from the damage of UV rays. It is best to use lightweight sunscreen or shea butter.

3. Drink enough water

When the weather is cold, we mostly forget to take enough water. Staying hydrated ensures your skin is healthy and glowing during the winter. Water evaporates from the body during the winter. However, you will need a humidifier to ensure your skin is constantly hydrated on the outside. The essence of the humidifier is to balance the moisture level in your home. It will also eliminate the dry air and maintain the moisture on the damaged skin barrier.

4. Exfoliate your skin

The skin is almost always dry during the winter. Winter is the best time to ensure you exfoliate your skin twice a week. One thing to know is that exfoliation during the winter is different. The first step is to wash your face with a gentle cleanser. Remember that using a harsh product will only damage your skin barrier. Pat your face dry and apply your exfoliating scrub in a circular motion. Always ensure you extend the exfoliating scrub on the neck. Wah off with lukewarm water and proceed to use a moisturiser or go through with other steps in your routine.

5. Pay attention to your hand.

Exposing your hand during the winter can thin out the skin. It also makes the hand prone to cracks due to how itchy it gets from the cold. Wear a glove as often as you can. Invest in hand cream or choose any body butter from our products.

6. Avoid wearing wet clothes.

During the winter, the rain becomes more frequent and freezing. Always ensure you don’t stay in your wet clothes for too long. Remove wet socks or shoes and avoid wearing not adequately dried ones.

The winter season is not friendly for people with sensitive skin. If you have sensitive skin, add a serum to your routine. Avoid using facial wipes, as they can cause friction and damage your skin. Cut down on how much makeup you use. For most people, the skin becomes more sensitive during the winter. It is no need to panic as it’s a result of the change in the weather. Proceed with your other routines and pay extra attention to moisturising.

8. Follow your daily skin routine.

Winter is not enough reason to ditch any products in your skincare routine. Remain consistent with your daily skincare routine. Start with a cleanser and work your way down to your sunscreen. At night, repeat the same without including sunscreen. Make sure none of your products is expired, and they do not contain any chemicals or harsh products.
