A bowl of oatmeal is a good way to end your day and so is a face full of colloidal oatmeal. If you are wondering what the difference between regular oatmeal and colloidal oatmeal is, then here’s a basic explanation. Colloidal oatmeal is simply oatmeal that has been ground into fine flour. You could buy it that way or do it yourself at home.

If you’ve been keeping tabs on skincare products, you should have seen a couple of products with oatmeal as the major ingredient. Besides the oatmeal face mask, there is the oatmeal face scrub in which the regular oatmeal is used. It is left in its spherical form with fairly sharp edges because it is meant to “scrub” the face.

However, the mask was intended to cover up the face and exfoliate it hence the need for the colloidal form. With the addition of a few other ingredients, the powder becomes a thick paste that can be stored in the freezer for a long time.

What Does Colloidal Oatmeal Face Mask Do?

One of the first points that pop up when people talk about the effects of oatmeal is its anti-inflammatory property. Most inflammations are a result of cytokines being produced in the blood cells and oatmeal contains avenanthramides – a compound that has been proven to inhibit the production of cytokines.

Additionally, oatmeal contains zinc which is not only good for our bones but our pores as well. The zinc content is not friendly to acne and the spots they leave behind so it does everything within its power to get rid of them. The process may be slow but prolonged usage is what does the magic.

Who Should Use a Colloidal Oatmeal Face Mask?

Everyone, from the lady with serious acne issues to the one with glowing skin. One reason for this generalization has already been explained: its anti-inflammatory properties. Along with that, the tiny oatmeal grains stay on the surface and pull out bacteria that shouldn’t be there. This includes acne and eczema causing bacteria.

Those who’ve come in contact with poison Ivy are another set we would recommend the oatmeal face mask to. It contains saponins that are well known for their cleansing properties. When dissolved in water, they begin to foam hence the need for having them present in soaps and other cleaning agents.

Summarily, oatmeal removes dirt, extracts oils, cleanses and at the same time, moisturizes the skin. Unlike other cleaning agents, it doesn’t sap the skin of all moisture, it removes only what is not needed and replaces it with some of its goodness.

Having gone through all the amazing properties of the oatmeal, we are quite certain that you would be pumped to make one for yourself. We are also pumped to roll out the recipe but we just thought to give you a heads-up. There are different recipes for different skin types and skin problems so if you hop on one list without verifying what skin type it was directed at, you may be disappointed.

However, there’s a recipe basically for making your skin pop. That and one extra recipe would is what we’d be presenting shortly.

Colloidal Oatmeal Face Mask for Clear Skin
Recipe:

  • 75 grams colloidal oatmeal.
  • 25 grams mimosa hostilis root bark powder.
  • 1 egg white which is a good exfoliating agent.
  • 15 grams of almond oil to soften and heal the skin.
  • 15 grams of lemon juice which is a good ingredient for closing up pores.
  • Warm water.

Procedure for Homemade Oatmeal Face Mask

  • Pour the ground oatmeal into a relatively wide bowl that would allow you to turn the mixture properly.
  • Add the egg white into the bowl and begin to stir gradually.
  • The almond oil can now go in while you continue to stir the mixture.
  • The evenness of the content is what tells you whether you should continue stirring or not. There should be no lumps or dry areas in the mixture.
  • If the mixture turns out thicker than what a regular face mask should be like, you are free to add some water. Gently, though. You don’t want to have a bowl of ground oatmeal for breakfast.
  • Now is the time to get your hands messy. Using your fingers, apply the formula to your face and spread evenly to allow it to do a thorough job.
  • Fifteen minutes later, rinse the mask off with some warm water. For best results, repeat this every 24 hours.

Colloidal Oatmeal Face Mask Recipe for Acne.
Recipe:

  • 25 grams of mimosa hostilis root bark powder.
  • 75 grams of oatmeal powder.
  • 15 grams of lemon juice.
  • 15 grams of baking soda whose purposes we are all familiar with.
  • 1 white onion (optional but advisable for serious acne issues).
  • 50 grams of hot water.
Procedure:
  • Your oatmeal should be ground already so just go ahead and put it into a bowl.
  • Peel and blend the onion until it is smooth. Don’t add water to it yet.
  • Get the steaming water and gently pour it into the bowl. You could use all the water if you go by the measurements prescribed.
  • Empty the onion juice and all other ingredients into the bowl with the oatmeal and MHRB and begin to stir.
  • If the mask looks thicker than what you would want on your face, add a little water and stir again.
  • When the mixture is cool enough, apply generous amounts to your face and spread evenly. Let it sit right there for a minimum of 10 minutes.
  • Wash your face thoroughly with warm water and dry with a clean towel.

Oatmeal with a mix of other essential oils and exfoliating agents can make a great combo for glowing skin. Its presence in most makeup products is what keeps the skin from revolting against the other ingredients with slightly toxic effects. It’s a good thing to see that individuals are also exploiting this exotic, yet, cheap natural product.
