7 Skincare Mistakes You’re Guilty of

A lot of people are passionate about skincare. Others care less because they have no idea the right or wrong way to go about their routine. For everyone, the first thing to know is that skincare has rules. There are do’s and don’ts with everything, which also applies to our skincare routine.

There are Skincare mistakes we are all guilty of, and this is because no one is perfect when it comes to skincare. However, this article will serve as a guide to help you fix these skincare mistakes.

7 Skincare Mistakes You’re Guilty of

1. Not Washing The Pillowcase Frequently

Our pillowcase holds more dirt than we can imagine. A buildup of dirt and germs from our skin gets on the pillow at night. During the day, the pillow absorbs dirt from the environment. While sleeping, our pillow traps the dead skin cell our body releases at night. Did you know that pillows made of synthetic materials hold more dust and germ? It is better and more advisable to use a frequently laundered pillow and pillowcase. For people who sleep on their stomachs, wash their pillowcases twice a week. When your face is constantly pressed to pillows, it can cause barrier damage. A silk and satin pillowcase is easier on the skin

2. Moisturising Only At Night

If you’ve been doing this, it is time to stop. Your skin needs to be moisturised twice a day. It would be best if you moisturize every time you take a shower. When we shower, some soaps we use (especially when it’s harsh) strips the body of its natural oils. It is best to apply a moisturiser when your body is damp, and it helps your body lock in the moisturise. Using a moisturiser in the morning will not over-saturate your makeup. Apply your moisturiser twice a day, in the morning and during your nighttime routine.

3. Over Exfoliating

Nothing causes skin barrier damage more than exfoliation. Exfoliation helps the skin get rid of dead skin cells. It makes the skin smooth and also unclogs the pores. However, it is advisable to exfoliate the skin once a week. Exfoliating leaves the skin irritated and causes sores and redness. It makes the skin dry and flaky. Most times, the product we use during exfoliation is why the skin becomes rough and patchy. It is easier to exfoliate with oat to leave your skin smooth and healthy.

4. Using harsh and expired products

How often do you check the ingredients or shelf life of a product? It is best to always remember that the skin is the most essential organ of the body. Frequently we use harmful products with damaging ingredients. These products with chemicals and toxins will clog our pores and irritate the skin. It is advisable to use Mayan Magic Soaps and other products from us because they are mild on the skin and are rich in natural ingredients. If a product is not toxin-free, it is best to avoid it. Also, make sure always to check the shelf life of skincare products. Once a product expires, please get rid of it and purchase a new one. An expired skincare product is harmful to the skin.

5. Skipping sunscreen in your routine

The only time it is okay to avoid sunscreen is during your nighttime skincare routine. Sunscreen does not oversaturate the skin. It is also not a replacement for moisturisers as they both have different roles to play on the skin. It is advisable to reapply sunscreen and use one when you’re indoors. Sunscreen is used daily. If you need sunscreen, ensure it is above or within SPF 30. The constant exposure of our skin to the sun puts us at risk of cancer. By applying sunscreen, you block out the sun’s UV rays on the skin.

6. Following the same skincare routine in the morning and night

Your morning skincare routine is different from the nighttime routine. While it is okay to apply sunscreen in the morning, your skin does not need it at night, and this is because there is no sun at night. In the daytime, it is advisable to use skincare products with antioxidants. At night, use a facial cleanser, exfoliate once a week and moisturise the skin.

7. Sleeping with makeup on

It is best to allow your skin to breathe. At night the skin renews and repairs itself. Before you sleep, remove your makeup and let your skin breathe. It will allow your skin to be unclogged. When the skin is clean, it doesn’t affect the skin’s natural process. Therefore before you sleep, no matter how busy your day is, always make sure you clean your makeup.

Avoid picking your face. If you have skincare problems, it is advisable to book an appointment with a dermatologist.
